Zoom

$450.00

Small Studio Work on invasive Burmese python leather
8.625 x 8.625 in (matted to 7.5 x 7.5 in)

Zoom started as a texture-and-color experiment, and it turned into a piece that feels like motion.

I painted directly onto Burmese python leather, letting the natural diamond scale pattern do what it does best: catch light, create rhythm, and make your eye move. I pulled fluid acrylic across the surface with a squeegee, then layered in brushwork and fluorescent passages so certain colors actually glow in the right light. Each scale becomes its own tiny lens.

The color field shifts from deep blue and violet into bright greens and aquas, like speeding past a landscape that keeps changing as you go. The white diamonds interrupt the pattern like flashes. They can read like clouds. Or sheep. Or simply the sensation of moving so fast the world breaks into bright, floating shapes.

What it’s made of, and why it matters
This painting is made from the leather of invasive Burmese pythons removed from the Florida Everglades. These snakes prey on native wildlife, including species already under pressure, and their spread can destabilize the ecosystem in ways that ripple outward. Removing pythons is one of the most direct, practical actions available for protecting native animals and supporting the Everglades as a functioning, living system.

By bringing Zoom into your home, you’re not just collecting a work of art. You’re partnering in restoration. It’s a vibrant reminder that beauty can be more than decoration, and that your choices can help protect the places we love.
