Description

Beautiful Stranger is a large, luminous field of soft color that hovers between sky, water, and something more unfamiliar. Dreamy layers of blue, pink, yellow, and lavender drift across the surface, while the raised python scales catch light and cast shadow. From a distance it feels calm and weightless. Up close, the texture introduces a quiet tension between beauty and danger, attraction and unease.

The work is built from a single fourteen-foot invasive Burmese python skin, cut into sections, mounted to a wood panel, and painted in acrylic. Color is airbrushed and brushed in multiple passes so it settles into the recessed areas, then catches lightly on the highest points of the scales. As you move past the surface, the pastels seem to glow from within. The finished piece measures 52 x 36 inches unframed, and 60 x 44 x 1 inches framed, with a clean white frame that gives it a strong architectural presence and arrives ready to hang.

Burmese pythons are an invasive predator in the Florida Everglades, consuming many of the small mammals and birds that native ecosystems depend on. Transforming this skin into art changes that destruction into something protective and enduring, supporting demand for removal and safeguarding the animals these snakes would otherwise have displaced. The material on this panel was part of the problem. Now it is part of the solution.
