DESCRIPTION

That suspended moment in the tropics when the sky goes from pink to deep blue and everything hovers. The water holds the last light. The mountains go soft and dark. And just before the first stars appear, the whole world feels like it's holding its breath.

Built from 68 invasive lionfish skins, each one cut and glued by hand onto a cradled wood panel. The scale pockets caught the airbrushed paint in ways that couldn't have been predicted — the highlights and shadows shift as you move past the surface.

Every one of those 68 lionfish was a threat to the Caribbean reefs that inspired this painting. Each one can consume tens of thousands of native reef fish in its lifetime. The material on this canvas was part of the problem. Now it's part of the solution.
